Made another drive-about this morning. I am pleased! Everything is clearing, mind you, still stained up pretty good. The Kinni is the dirtiest, the Rush, a bit clearer. All will fish tomorrow.
Define fishable?
I am probably a bit careful on this topic because different anglers define “fishable” differently. Many anglers fish when there is very little clarity in the water and do just fine. My definition of fishable is based mostly on safe wading and the ability of the average angler to negotiate the stream bed without being able to see it clearly. This can be dangerous and I will never put my clients in dangerous wading situations. It is just not worth it. I know a number of guides who will take clients out under any conditions. That is not me. As I bring you my reports please be aware of that. Rivers also clear at different rates and there is know way I can have eyes on all sections of all rivers. Andy, Really appreciate your river condition posts. Mike A and I fished the Upper Kinni this afternoon. No rising fish, but nymphing was productive. Water clarity, depth and speed called for careful wading, but manageable even for a couple of old guys.

It’s assembly line work. Unless that is, you are talking about fishing the nymph to a sighted trout. Then it becomes the highest form of art!
Fished the lower Kinni, as well as Rush & Trimbelle. The last two were clearer and more fishable. The rush at 72 bridge was perfect with a light stain. Fish were willing, should be a good weekend. The birds are a nice treat. Thanks for the updates.

Thanks for the update. I found the same. Guided the Kinni yesterday. Caught a few, moved a few on streamers. Slower than I thought it should have been for the conditions.

The assembly line and the sighted trout. Two perspectives from your box of choices. Experience and enjoyment have set your viewpoint. Unless convinced otherwise, I might maintain that all method/technique in fly fishing is assembly line work. The regularity of the cast, the ability to work in harmony with the speed of the conveyor, the slight adjustments necessary in order to produce a perfectly presented product. Rhythm is the foundation of our angle. Choosing what line you will work is a matter of experience, partiality and the conditions of the day. Today I ride the seam line waiting for my next cue from the river. Previous insight will help choose between flat and broken, between sighted and cloaked, between surface and sub, I will make my attempt and call it art or craft or sanity. The whole process, from start to finish, will be original, and without levels.
