The crowds were just right at the Greatwaters Fly Fishing Expo show today. Looking to be a great day tomorrow. Come on out to the National Sports Center in Blaine and take part in a great show with a some great seminars. Looks like the temps will be just right for some great activity. I apologize to all of you that I have neglected in my in-box.

Sounds like the Expo was fun…I was glad it was happening as I think it kept lots of folks away from the lower Kinni. I was there around noon on Sunday for only about an hour and a half and pulled out 4 browns and 2 brookies on the medium to small side on #18 prince and #18 copper john. Fish were rising like crazy but I couldn’t get them to take anything on the surface.
Andy,
My daughter loved this temperature-sensitive trout that she received as a door prize at your kids session. She named it “Mr. Smarty Gills” because brown trout are smart, used it as her target during her casting lesson, and then slept with it that night. She couldn’t wait to show it to Mom. The Living Stream exhibit also seemed to make an impression, as she reported finding (invisible) bugs in her bed overnight! Now she just needs to hook one of those “smarty gills” browns for real!
Thanks for the sessions at the show!

The Kids program at the expo was fun. I think she identified the brown As “Mrs Smarty Gills” after the trout gender Identification lesson we had in class. You will have to ask her.

Good to hear of some fish rising on the lower Kinni. They were probably midging but just a guess. Always a bit finicky down there.
Andy, How common are Brookies on the Lower Kinni and what tribs do they move into as the temps rise? I can’t say that I’ve ever seen any there and was suprised to see that Bill had found a couple.

They are there. The numbers are small. I will try and ask Marty Engle for the estimate. There is a fair population in the Rocky Branch about a half mile down from the dam. I am not sure if any other tribs hold them in the lower. I caught one last week. It was 10″, a beauty.
Andy, my son won’t stop talking about you and everything he learned from your class. We helped out at a stream rehabilition over the weekend and I was amazed at how much we already knew from your class. I will have to send you some bunker pictures I took for them.
Thanks Monica
One excited son makes it all worth while
