The Rain did not affect the waters of Pierce Co. The rivers are all good, and in perfect shape for this time of year. Get out there while you still can, the trout season in our area ends on September 30th. A tip: Try a silver lightning bug in size 20 or smaller.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackLot’s of fish on Wednesday on the lower Kinni from 1:30 – 6:00 PM all on small nymphs. Seven at 12″ or larger with the largest at 13″. The weeds are dying so you need to clean your nymph every few casts. Heavy baetis/p. anoka/plauditus hatch but it’s the hatch that’s not a hatch. Water is in very good shape.
Andy,
Ok – I’ll bite. What is a silver lightening bug?
A silver Lightening bug is a version of the Bead Head,Flash Back, Pheasant tail nymph. The difference between the two is the body of the fly. The body is wrapped with silver holographic tinsel keeping a thin profile instead of the Pheasant tail barbs of the standard fly. I will try to get a picture up on Monday. Today a small#22 flash back P. tail worked well(no bead) on the Kinni. Water is thin and weedy in allot of spots though.
Hi Andy, I tried my version of the SLB yesterday and it was quite a hit with the brooks and brownies. Some also liked the huge stimulator I was using as an indicator. I tied mine with pheasant tails, silver mylar body, red copper wire rib, copper Quick Descent collar and a silver tungsten bead. The bead fit on the sz 20 hook, but looked better on the sz 18 scud hook. Thanks for the SLB idea!
