The front moved through mid-afternoon yesterday and turned cold. Fishing in the cool overcast morning was productive in the deeper holes. The water is clear and low enough to spook fish easily. The shallow broken waters did not produce like a week ago. The broken water flowing into deeper holes was the best. The sun poked out at noon, momentarily, to get the black caddis started. They started, but the clouds came back and delayed the hatch for Monday. There was enough top water action to make a go of it but a warm sunny day should have them going gangbusters. Remember The Early Season in Wisconsin closes on Sunday April 30th at 11:59 PM and won’t open again until May 6th. Soft hackles in Tan, Black, and orange in size 14-18 worked best for me.
