After what, 7 years of writing on this blog, and 11 years at Bentleys Outfitters, I have gotten to know some of you in the fly fishing community quite well.  I know when you need more information. Today is one of those days when you will be checking here. HI, HOW YA DOING!

The day after it rains you want to know how the waters have reacted. Especially a day after it has rained on top of what might be some of last winter snows we will probably receive in the region. I know, I shouldn’t have said that. This day, a Friday, is the day before a weekend who’s weather report has temps moving into 40’s, 50’s, maybe even the 60’s. I know many of you may have plans to fish for the first time this weekend and you don’t want to be disappointed by the conditions. I will be out today checking.

Here is what I know so far. Yes it rained reasonably hard yesterday and then it snowed on top of that. The weather station in River Falls said we had just short of 1/2″ of precipitation. Farm Fields have begun to clear and the dark soil has begun to feel the few rays of heat and sun lately. That is good. We have melted off a ton of snow, nice and slow this last month. Yesterday, there was standing water everywhere. Fields and ditches were full of slush, yes slush. This morning it is in the 20’s. Most of that slush is frozen. Yes some of the water ran into the rivers yesterday. The Kinni took a spike in flow but not a catastrophic spike and flows are dropping. We are supposed to freeze again tonight. My gut tells me that this weekend may be fine to fish if the rivers are not yucked up by the end of the day today. I will make my drive today and tell you what I think later this evening.
