Very fine brown trout, Andy! I guy would be thrilled to take that in any river in Montana. Love the broad tail and the hooked jaw…a Kinni trophy for sure!

I Never put a tape on him.
As I look back, this was not the fight of last years fish. It was more a brooding struggle of wills. He had been hooked in water 3 feed deep or so, with bottom color black as night. The black leaf litter bottoms will absorb more heat at this time of year and my imagination says these slow water areas adjacent to moving current might be a bit warmer spots to catch some rays if I were a trout. The leaf liter will be gone when the spring floods arrive and the spot will look completely different afterwards. The anxiety began when I finally saw the fish against the light colored sandy bottom, maybe 2 feet in depth. The dumbest first thought is “holy cow, I don’t want to loose this one”. Duh! get in the game you idiot. My next thought was honestly “how can I release this fish without hurting it”? Second dumb mistake, seeing as though I had not even landed the fish yet. Its like a receiver running with the ball before he catches it. How dumb does that one look on the replay. Mistake number 3 comes by turning on the camera while it is hanging around your neck and you are still fighting the fish. You reason this out so you can take a photo of the trout when your by yourself and get the fish back into the water as quick as possible. Again, this is when you take your eye off the prize and poof, the fish is gone. At that point you take a picture of the stupid look on your face for being such an idiot. Fortunately luck let me slide through all three mistakes. The big fish behaved as I gently laid him on the soft new snow for the photo and he defiantly flipped me off with his tail as he swam away. I have had the chance now to compare this fish to other photos of the same kind and to fish I have landed and measured. This Brown trout was exactly,,,,,,,,,,,,,,never measured. Joshy, length doesn’t matter. Where have I heard that before?

Andy,
You could probably measure the fish straight from the picture. I’m guessing it’s 10+” or so to the end of the grip. Based on that somewhere between 20″-24″.

Nice fish Andy! I’d settle for a few 10-12″ ones tonight after work. It has been real slow for me so far. You could get a pretty good measurement by taking a tape to your rod, but it is clear to me it doesn’t really matter to you.
I would agree that it falls in there. Official Wisconsin measurement says I must pinch the tail.

Did you land that on a 3wt? Impressive! Any details on fly/presentation?

A trophy fish for sure. The first question is what did he bite on and the second question is how did you get a stuffed fish like that to look so real. Quite the fish story. It’s almost believable. 😉

He is quite handsome.
Fish like this are an unusual surprise, at least for me, on the Kinni. I am tickled to know that she can grow them like this.

How’d it taste? In all seriousness, what a fish. You’ve stuck a couple nice ones lately.
