Lunch at the Bend Pool

Lunch at the Bend Pool

Not much has changed around the old home waters lately. The rain keeps missing us and the rivers keep getting clearer. The bloody prince continues to do its job as a lead fly in broken water situations. The weight of this fly gets you down fast and allows you to use less weight. One thing I have noticed is that smaller (20-24) midge pupa have continued to out fish the larger standard mayfly nymphs.Go small on your trail fly it has worked well.

Afternoons and early evenings have been good for both caddis and Cranefly dries. These are not blanket hatches but enough fish have been coming to the surface to make it worth your while. In 2 weeks I have a great Crane fly pattern that will be available for sale on the site. There are no commercial patterns out there that match our Crane Flies and this one is a winner. This creamy yellow fly will be around well into July and has given anglers fits trying to match this hatch. As soon as my supply arrives you will hear about it. I have named it the Cheddar Head Crane.
