img_1606A dramatic warm up in water temps sent the fish into a frenzy this week. Water temps in the low to mid 50’s after sitting in the 40’s for the previous week made all the difference. Blue wings popped every afternoon but were spooky in the flatter water. Long casts and softimg_1613 presentation were key to getting these fish to eat. Adult and emerger BWO patterns both worked. Targeting edges of riffles where fish were feeding seemed to get anglers close enough to not be seen in these clear water conditions. Nymphing with large #10-14 stone fly patterns trailed with #18-20 Kinni nymph, Copper John’s or P.tails was golden in the deep pools and runs. Don’t forget your sack of Bentley’s Balls strike indicators to float your flies at the right depth so these hungry fish can find yourimg_1604 bugs(shameless plug).  The upper Kinni had the best BWO action that I saw in the last few days. I’m sure it was good in many locations. Hopefully we will get a little rain this weekend. Here are a few of the 2840_92715721354_556861354_2886291_712203_ncatches over the last ten days. The Kinnickinnic River Land Trust is having their annual clean up event on May 16. This annual event  will be a great day to spend with friends, keeping one of Wisconsin’s gems healthy.
