As you may know the winter catch and release Trout season opened on Jan 1st. The regulations are the same as last year but make sure you know the sections of water that are open for fishing. The maps are available on the DNR website for download. Contrary to belief, the fish were not all killed by the flooding last year. DNR says fish counts after the flood were right on target and mortality was quite low considering the severity of the flooding. The problem is the food supply. Stomach surveys an invertebrate counts were at least 50% lower than normal. Fish will likely be food stressed and hungry which should be good for catching but anglers should treat the situation accordingly and not over play fish. Good luck this week it looks like weather should be great. Send me an E-mail on your outing.
