-Fished Brule River Tuesday-Friday 10-7 to 10-10
-Last years fall run numbers are as small as I have seen in years. Intel says summer floods/tough winters may have had some effect on population.
-Flows dropped from close to 300 to under 200 cfs. River became tamer as the week went on. Tough to be confident in drift at over 250 cfs.
-Anglers were happy to be out, but generally stumped by the lack of cooperation by the steelhead. Catching was not the norm. Night life was festive:)
-We managed a few fish and worked hard for them. Some bright, some not so bright. More later. Gotta go
Give me a report if you have one.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackWas up last weekend, 17th-19th, 170cfs and dropping slowly. The fish were in and seemingly dispersed throughout the river. Light blue and light cream eggs along with nymphs seemed to be preferred. No consensus on fast vs slow, deep vs shallow, runs vs pools, but nearly every group was at least reporting hookups. It’s been quite some time since we’ve witnessed that degree of success throughout the river. Tons of people on the water- we had to camp at bois brule campground as copper range was full on Thursday. The overall angler mood seemed surprisingly disgruntled and tight-lipped. Then again we fishermen can be a fickle bunch when we feel crowded out. Our crew still found plenty of room to fish and enjoyed a wonderful weekend on a gorgeous river.

As you may already know, my lips are loose when it comes to Brule banter. Glad you found some dirt to sleep on. I will have a report up hopefully today about the last couple of weeks. Wide and varied reports. The Brule, she is fickle as well.
Thanks
