Black caddis have finally poped on some of the rivers of Wisconsin. The hatch is not river-wide, but yesterday it was thick. If you can find the spots where it is occuring, remember the spots and use it for future reference. The hatch happened around 2PM and fished well until 6PM. The down stream skitter was the most effective for me. The fish were in a splashy rise form and were taking both emergers and drys. X-caddis in dark olive followed by a bead head olive pupa were my best combination. The fish took the upstream presentation but far less frequently. Saturday and Sunday are the only days left to fish this hatch in Wisconsin since the season will be closed at midnight on Sunday the 25th. This hatch will likely be ove by the time the season re-opens May 1st.
